Ella Markina is a litigator and regulatory attorney in the firm’s Richmond office. Her substantive practice areas include Securities & Complex Commercial Litigation, FinTech & Blockchain, White Collar Defense, and Investigations & Compliance Counseling. She provides regulatory advice to broker-dealers, crypto exchanges, and investment advisors. Ms. Markina also counsels both registered representatives seeking expungement of customer complaints from their CRD records and firms regarding their Form U4 disclosures. Much of her work has focused on representing financial services clients in FINRA arbitrations. Ms. Markina has native fluency in Russian and Ukrainian. She holds a Master of Arts in Public Policy from the University of Chicago.

Prior to joining McGonigle, Ms. Markina served as an e-Discovery attorney for a large law firm and developed expertise in the processes and best practices of e-Discovery across a wide range of complex litigation matters.  While still in law school, Ms. Markina worked as a Legal Extern at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond as well as with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, Civil Division.  She won the 2018 Virginia Trial Lawyers Association Trial Competition and represented the University of Richmond School of Law in the American Association for Justice Regional Student Advocacy Competition. During this time, she served as a member of the Richmond Trial Advocacy Board and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board.

In 2022, Ms. Markina was nominated and accepted into the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s Pathfinder Program, which is designed to train diverse and high-performing, early-career attorneys in critical career development strategies including leadership and the building of professional networks.
